ST. LOUIS — With a name like Planet Sleep, you would expect a new memory foam mattress line from Boyd Specialty Sleep to be an eco-friendly offering. And it is. he bedding producer is following up a large and successful batch of introductions at the Las Vegas Market earlier this year with its new Planet Sleep offering. The three memory foam beds have superior design and performance, officials say.
“We believe this line delivers the ‘complete package” to retailers who want luxury memory foam products that are demonstrably different,” said Denny Boyd, president of Boyd Specialty Sleep. “These beds incorporate from four to seven inches of our exclusive open-cell memory foam layers, feature densities of up to seven pounds and total mattress profiles of up to 13 inches.”
The three beds in the line feature anti-microbial rayon covers made from sustainable bamboo fiber, known for its moisture control properties.
The beds, which carry a 20-year limited warranty, have earned Level 1 safety and environmental certification from the Specialty Sleep Assn. They feature foam produced in the company’s “green” foam manufacturing process; the foam is created in a sealed chamber that uses air pressure rather than chemicals to control the foam’s properties and performance. That process prevents harmful emissions from entering the atmosphere, the company said.
The top model, expected to retail from $1,299 to $1,999, features three layers of memory foam atop a high-density foam support base.
The middle model has five inches of memory foam, including a layer of channel-vented Stay-Cool memory foam, which is tri-zoned for enhanced lumbar support, improved air circulation and heat dissipation.
The starting model uses both solid and Stay-Cool memory foam layers atop the company’s FoamSpring support base.
Boyd is promoting the new line with a point-of-sale program that includes matching headboards and foot protectors, both with information inserts, and a mini-mattress display. Coordinated pillows round out the presentation.
“The ultra-premium feel and performance of this line, combined with the quality in-store presentation materials we have to support it, clearly deliver the brand message we want for Planet Sleep,” Boyd said.
