Boyd Specialty Sleep Obtains Airbed Patent

Mattress maker Boyd Specialty Sleep, with headquarters in St. Louis, has received a patent (U.S. Patent No. 8,656,539) for a new air mattress design. The proprietary design involves contiguous air chambers attached side by side and connected to another air chamber located in the bed’s perimeter.

The company said it developed the design to minimize the edge-sag problem often associated with multichamber airbeds and to increase the structural integrity and overall comfort of the mattress.

“The peripheral chamber makes it much easier for sleepers to get on or off the mattress and virtually removes any possibility of roll-off during the night,” said President Denny Boyd. “This innovation successfully addresses edge compression that’s often associated with multichamber air mattresses and accomplishes everything we’d hoped for in terms of edge-to-edge support and comfort.”

At the summer Las Vegas Market July 27-31, Boyd will introduce two Broyhill Lux Aire mattress models at $799 and $999 in queen that use the patented system.
